Big News Around Town!
I remember the first time I saw an automobile! In 1903 Doctor Taylor drove down our street! It was really neat, but extremely loud! Some of the horses were frightened by the loud sounds that the motor made but Doctor Taylor was sure not to scare them on purpose. Not everyone in Livermore liked his "horseless carriage" at first, but when people got sick it helped the doctor get to them right away.
Have you seen the flag pole on First Street in the park? I remember when it was dedicated on September 9, 1905! It is 126 feet tall and weighs more than 5,000 pounds! Some of the organizations in town bought a huge 40 foot American flag to fly from the new pole. The newspaper printed the picture to the left during the flag pole dedication. What a crowd! I think I can see myself in there off to the right! Later, when the pole got too old in 2004, they moved part of it to Carnegie Park where it still stands today. You can even go into the Heritage Guild's Museum and see a huge part of it for yourself!
